Today is Cosmic Saturday, aka Galactic Centre Day

Today the Earth, Sun and the centre of the Galaxy are all in alignment – as I explained in a previous blog post. I personally got up early so that I was ready for dawn – when I did some Enochian Theurgical working – which is related to my EHNB work. A full report shall be coming anon!

Galactic Centre Day 2011

This blog post came about partly as a result of a conversation with the writer Mike Crowson. Apparently he had unearthed some parapsychological research that says that psychic phenomena tend to increase when the centre of the Galaxy is rising on the horizon. Why this should be so neither he, I, nor the authors of the research were aware, but apparently there was statistical correlation for the assertion.

Now the Galactic Centre can be plotted astronomically – it is where the the belt of the Milky Way cuts the Ecliptic between the end of the constellation of Sagittarius and the beginning of that of Capricorn. Astrologically the Milky Way has figured in the myths of various cultures since ancient times, being thought of as the River of Souls up which we traverse in our post-mortem existence. The example par excellence is Ancient Egypt where it was considered to be the “Heavenly Nile.” The fact that the Milky Way cut the ecliptic at approximately the same point as where the Sun changes direction at the winter solstice did not escape the ancients: they believed that 0º Capricorn and 0º Cancer (approximately where the other end of the Milky Way crosses the ecliptic) were “Soul Gateways.”

Pentagram, with elemental attributions.

Here I depart from what Mike came up with and inserted my own findings (in other words – don’t blame him for the following). The pentagram, you will notice, has the elements Fire, Water, Air and Earth in a particular order – starting in the lower right point and reading widdershins. Why are they in this particular order and not another? It is because they correspond to the Kerubic signs of the Zodiac. That is to say, if Leo corresponds to the Fire point, Scorpio will correspond to the Water point, Aquarius the Air and Taurus the Earth points. This can be illustrated by the following crude diagram:

Pentagram (approximately) drawn on the belt of the Zodiac.

Now you notice that if the preceding is given, where the fifth point of Spirit lies? 0º Capricorn, the Galactic Centre and one of the two Soul Gateways! We thus have an occult explanation, or at least a theory, why the Galactic Centre appears to be connected with psychic phenomena, although this still raises the question why this should be so, and whether the connection with the Pentagram is not just an almighty coincidence. After all, the belt of the Zodiac only appears the way it does from our vantage point on Earth. Go anywhere else in the galaxy and they do not perceive the same constellations as we do. Unless the influence of the Galactic Centre has somehow managed to cause archetypal images in our collective unconscious, or influenced the formation of our solar system to  a Paranormal degree, or both.

Why am I going on about the Galactic centre though, I hallucinate that I hear you ask. Well – it just so happens that the Earth, Sun and the Galactic Centre will all be in alignment on Saturday 15th January 2011 – just two weeks hence. This is the moment when the Sun is at 0º Capricorn in the Sidereal Zodiac (Fagan-Bradley system), nb not the Tropical Zodiac – which would have been the Solstice, 21st December 2010. By using a sidereal system this more closely approximates actual astronomy than a tropical system. We thus have the exciting possibility that on that at dawn on that day our Solar System will be aligned with the Galactic Centre, and we will be able to accomplish great works of a psychic nature.

The Other Royal Wedding 2011

This is a follow up to my post regarding my recommended date for William & Kate’s Wedding in 2011. If you will recollect, I recommended Friday October 7th, based on electional astrology: it was on the day and hour of Venus, when the Moon is waxing and forms a favourable aspect (trine) with not only Venus the planet of Love but also a whole host of other planets including Saturn, Mercury and the Sun. HRH & Miss Middleton decided to ignore my advice and go instead for April 29th, on the flimsy reason that it is St Catherine’s Day. Honestly! However the good news for the rest of us is that Friday October 7th is now available to be used for “The Other Royal Wedding” of 2011.

I am of course talking about that between Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris.

Heff, I have assumed you will be basically wanting to hold the ceremony in Los Angeles so I have worked out the best time for you and Crystal: 1.39pm local time Los Angeles, on the aforesaid date (Friday October 7th).

A note to all those interested in electional astrology. This is a slightly different time than the one I mentioned in my previous post because the planetary hours have to be worked out according to when sunrise and sunset occur in a given location – in this instance Los Angeles. This is not just a different longitude  (and hence a timezone) from London but also a different latitude as well. Fortunately there are websites which exist which can perform the necessary calculations.

A note to all those who read this post and thought I was referring to Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall. Unfortunately there is an extremely good reason why they cannot get married on “LoveFriday2011” – it’s in the middle of the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand! Zara and Mike thus have the opposite problem – even if Mike did want to quickly get hitched between England games, what with timezones and everything they would have to do so at about 10 o’clock at night, or something like that.

LoveFriday2011 – Addendum

By way of follow-up to my post on Wills’ & Kate’s wedding and on LoveFriday2011, I have the following interesting bit of news to report. Soon after I posted the LoveFriday2011 article I was contacted by a researcher from the BBC World Service, and ended up giving a radio interview! It was a debate between myself and a Jyotish chap from Delhi. Apparently according to his take on astrology, Friday April 29th (St Catherine’s Day – get it?) was 75% auspicious. However, when I looked at it from the viewpoint of a Western Astrologer, there was one big black mark as far as I could see – retrograde Saturn was in opposition to about 5 planets – two of which were Venus and Mercury.

The chap from India had not taken Saturn’s position into account, and in fact claimed that it was not usual in Indian Astrology to do so. I am no expert in Jyotisa although it struck me that this was a major difference between the Indian and the Western traditions.

The radio presenter challenged us to predict the weather on April 29th – the Indian chap said that he theoretically could but it would take him some time. I on the other hand politely declined to do so. 😉

“Love Friday 2011” – Now Free For Everyone to book their weddings!

William and Kate have shunned the best astrological advice available and chosen to hold their wedding on April 29th 2011. This despite the fact that Venus will be in its detriment in Aries, and Saturn is retrograde from January until June. However, I am not going to be so offensive as that Bishop who was suspended recently, and instead say to the couple “Good Luck” – in every sense of the term.

However, what is bad (or at least not particularly brilliant, astrologically speaking) news for the Royal Couple is good news for everyone else. Apparently many brides had been afraid that if Wills’ & Kate’s big day had clashed with their own, then the Royals would have overshadowed them. However, because the Royal Couple have now chosen to get married in April, this means that the best possible date for getting married in 2011 is now up for grabs. I.e. Friday October 7th 2011, preferably at 1.42pm (if in the United Kingdom – the exact time for other countries will vary).  I have therefore officially Sumnerened the day as “LOVE FRIDAY 2011.”

I went into detail on why this is such a good date for getting married in my previous post on the subject, but the long and the short of it is because that day there is a unique astrological event – a four way conjunction between the Venus, Saturn, Sun and Mercury, whilst the (waxing) Moon forms a trine (i.e. a harmonious aspect) to the lot of them.

IMHO, this is such a good date that I shall probably be taking the day off work that day to consecrate a Venus talisman, or do some working of that nature.

Wedding Date for Prince William and Kate Middleton predicted by Astrology

HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton

To His Royal Highness Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales, Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, and Miss Kate Middleton.

Your Royal Highness, Madame,

Firstly, may I be the first astrologer, tarot reader, ceremonial magician and all-round expert on the occult to congratulate you both on the happy event of your engagement. I daresay you are giving much thought to the preparations for the big-day. It is in this connection that I, as a loyal subject and Facebook fan of your (William’s) Royal Grandmother, wish to lend my assistance – to wit: picking the best date for the Wedding.

It is possible to calculate the best time astrologically speaking for any given occasion – this is a particular discipline known as Electional Astrology. I have taken the liberty of speculating what criteria you may feel best conducive to a good Wedding:

  1. Love
  2. Longevity
  3. The beginning of a successful partnership
  4. General good fortune and happiness.

In astrological terms these are respectively represented by:

  1. Venus – for obvious reasons;
  2. Saturn (which although in one respect is the planet of death, conversely it is also the planet of long-life when well aspected);
  3. Mercury – which as the planet of communication also rules over new ventures and agreements;
  4. Miscellaneous other planets – e.g. Jupiter, Mars, Sun or Moon, so long as they are all well aspected (or at the very least, not badly aspected).

The rule of thumb in Electional Astrology is to have regard to the position of the Moon. Thus I would suggest a date to you which fulfills the following criteria:

  1. It is on the Day and in the hour of Venus (i.e. it should be on a Friday – the hour of Venus I will refer to later);
  2. It should be when the Moon is waxing – because a waxing moon is traditionally good for attracting new influences, i.e. attracting good fortune;
  3. The Moon should form favourable aspects primarily with Venus, and secondarily with Saturn, Mercury and other planets.

This actually narrows the number of dates available down in 2011 considerably. Obviously there are only 52 Fridays. 26 of these will be eliminated because they occur when the Moon is waning. Furthermore, I have eliminated all Fridays occurring between the end of January and the 13th June, because Saturn will be retrograde on those dates. Likewise, I have eliminated all Fridays which occur when Mercury is retrograde (it is always a bad idea to begin a new venture when Mercury is retrograde).

Of those that remain, most are unremarkable astrologically speaking – except one, which is the date I recommend for your wedding. It is:

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7TH 2011, at 1.42pm

OK, I know the idea of an Autumn wedding is a bit unconventional but I beg to be indulged for one moment. The great thing about

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7TH 2011, at 1.42pm

is that it fulfils all the relevant criteria – the Moon is trine Venus, trine Saturn, trine Mercury and trine the Sun. A win win win win situation! The business about 1.42pm is what I was referring to about planetary hours – 1.42 is the beginning of the midday Venus hour that Friday. You could also have held it at dawn the same day, but not only would that have involved getting up far too early, the Moon would still have been within the orb of a Mars opposition. However by holding it in the afternoon this situation is neatly avoided.

Friday October 7th 2011, 1.42pm - Alex Sumner's suggested date for the royal wedding.

In conclusion, I earnestly offer you this advice freely without any suggestion of a reward *cough* KCVO *cough*. My best wishes for the future to you both,

Your obedient servant,

Alex Sumner.

PS: Any commoners reading this might actually get the hint that the same day would also be a good day for their wedding as well – to share in the Royal couple’s good fortune, as it were.

Today is a good day for invoking Mercury

The moon is waxing and forms a good aspect with Mercury. The planetary hours for London, UK are (or were) 0722 – 0806; 1230 – 1314; and 1842 – 1958 this evening.

Planetary hours for the daytime can be calculated by taking the length of time between dusk and the preceding dawn and dividing by 12. The first hour (i.e. beginning at dawn) is always that of the planet after which the day of the week is named – it is in fact the reason why in ancient times the days of the week were named as they were. Hence: Sunday = Sun, Monday = Moon, etc. The rest of the hours follow the natural order of the planets, repeating after every seven: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon.

The planetary hours for the night-time are calculated by dividing the time between dawn the following day and dusk the previous day by 12. (See, for example, here). The planets are assigned in the same order as the day hours, following straight on from the last hour which ended at dusk.

A Method of Achieving KCHGA with Tarot Divination

When the pupil is ready, the Guru appears.

Traditional

Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

Luke 12:40 (KJV)

“KCHGA” (“Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel”), refers mainly to the high-point of the Abramelin Operation, which Crowley decreed was the central task of an Adept in his system of Thelema. Since then it has taken on a sort of mythical quality amongst magicians, both Crowleyan and non-Crowleyan, who take it to be the quest for knowledge of the higher self, when in fact a closer reading of mediaeval grimoires such as Abramelin, the Lesser Key of Solomon, et al, would in fact suggest it is no such thing. In grimoire magick, a “Holy Guardian Angel” was a being that one evoked to come and become the Guardian of the Crystal Ball or scrying medium that one would use in subsequent operations to contact other spirits. The Holy Guardian Angel would thus ensure that only the spirit asked for would appear, and that it would speak the truth when it did so. The “Holy Guardian Angel” of traditional grimoire magick is thus what a Medium would refer to as a “Spirit Guide,” though it would be inaccurate to think of it as ones Higher Self per se.

But I digress.

Despite Crowley’s mangling of terminology, KCHGA is nevertheless a convenient metaphor for the quest for the higher self: one could argue that it has virtually become synonymous with the same through persistence of usage over the past hundred years. In identifying the “Holy Guardian Angel” with the Higher Self, Crowley just about associated it with the concept of the “Guru” or inner teacher of eastern tradition. The real meaning of “Guru” does not necessarily refer to any of the supposedly enlightened humans calling themselves Gurus. An authentic Guru can be identified by two characteristics: firstly – they lead the chela (pupil) from darkness to light; and secondly (and most importantly), the Guru takes karmic responsibility for the fate of his or her Chelas. It will thus be appreciated that probably 99% or more of those people referred to as Gurus are not in fact Gurus per se, but “pundits” who have been accorded the title of Guru out of courtesy. More importantly, however, a true Guru may or may not be an incarnate human being, but it is also believed “the Guru” may also be a discarnate being – i.e. like the “Holy Guardian Angel.”

Which leads on to the main subject of this essay – a practical method for attaining KCGHA, knowledge of the Higher Self, the Guru, the Christ-consciousness, etc. Arm yourself with a decent deck of Tarot cards, and do a Divination in the traditional manner, based upon the following very specific question:

“How shall I make myself ready to receive knowledge of my higher self?”

(NB: note how this is phrased – this will be explained momentarily).

The Divination will provide a set of answers which will be a list of practical things for you to do to be getting on with, such as putting your life in order, concentrating on one thing and not on another, etc. Then basically you go and do all of this. The meaning of a Tarot Divination can be cross-checked by making a note of the time, date and place upon which you performed it, and then verifying it with Horary Astrology.

When you think you have done everything your divination has indicated, you may then perform another divination: “How shall I now make myself ready to receive knowledge of my higher self?” – and then repeating the process, performing further divinations subsequently as appropriate.

The reason it is phrased “How shall I make myself ready to receive knowledge of the higher self?” and not “How shall I seek the Higher Self?” or even “How shall I find the Higher Self?” is because there is hidden significance in the old saying “When the pupil is ready, the Guru appears.” One does not “find” the Guru by seeking after him / her / it, but my making oneself ready to receive the Guru’s teachings. The Guru, like the Higher Self, is a spiritual force which is not sought after, because you ought already to know where it is waiting to be found – i.e. Within. The saying “when the pupil is ready the Guru appears” is really saying that instead of concentrating on seeking the Guru, the pupil should concentrate on making him- or herself ready for the Guru. And eventually, when the time is right, the Guru / Higher Self / etc appears, often unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.

Imagine the converse of this argument: if you travelled all the way to find to India to find a Guru, but were not ready to receive their teachings when you got there, you would have wasted your journey. Likewise, if you purport to undertake a spiritual quest, like the Abramelin operation, but fail to prepare for what is going to happen when the HGA finally does appear, the results could be disastrous.

The Astrology of the Pope’s Visit To Britain – Follow-up

Judging from the press coverage, most of the trip appears to have gone smoothly. I was predicting a major incident of controversy: the most controversial incident reported was that on the first day, Il Papa rather unkindly pointed out that it was atheist extremism which caused the atrocities of World War II, which apparently upset a lot of people like Richard Dawkins (probably because they realised they can’t keep going on about the wars fought in the name of religion anymore!). I’m surprised these militant atheists didn’t try to complain that the Pope had Godwinized the debate, as that’s the level of incisive rhetoric to which they usually ascend.

Accidents: none which were reported in the press. The nearest we got to one was prevented when the police arrested a gang of street cleaners who were allegedly plotting to assassinate the Pope.

Because my analysis was mainly based on the slow-moving planets, I calculate that the margin for error is approximately three months. That is to say: if the events predicted happen within the next three months, it is just about possible to say they were astrologically indicated, even though they did not occur within the time of the visit itself. If however nothing such happens between now and Christmas, we can reasonably say that Astrology failed to work on this occasion. Either that or the Holy Father read my blog and took steps to avert the omens.

The Astrology of the Pope’s Visit To Britain

Courtesy of AstroDienst.com

Following on from my successes at predicting the outcome of the UK general election, and England’s chances in the world cup, I now present what I predict will occur when His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI arrives tomorrow for his state visit to the United Kingdom. This I have done by comparing the Pope’s birth-chart with the transits which are occurring at this time.

Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Alois Ratzinger) was born on 16th April 1927 at Marktl-Am-Inn in Bavaria, Germany, at 0830 local time. He is due to touch down in the UK at 1030 am (British Summer Time) tomorrow – 16th September 2010 – at Edinburgh International Airport. Inputting this data into AstroDienst.com I have come up with a chart with which one can compare the Pope’s birth chart (inner ring) with the transits occurring during the visit (outer ring) – see diagram.

Generally speaking in astrological terms, there is a currently Square aspect between three planets. Jupiter and Uranus are conjunct in Pisces: whilst Pluto squares both of them in Capricorn. What makes this interesting is that these three form a “T” with Pope Benedict’s ascendant – which itself is conjunct his natal Mars and Caput Draconis.

Uranus and Jupiter squaring his natal ascendant (etc) presages that Pope Benedict will manage to stir up a major incident of controversy or a crisis during this trip – relating to the nature of the his job as Pope. The Mars influence suggests that the Pope, blinded by overconfidence, will have an outburst of anger which will alienate a lot of people. The Caput Draconis influence indicates that this major incident will coincide with one of his public speeches which happens to be about a popular religious, philosophic, educational, or cultural trend.

We should not be surprised if Pope Benedict suffers some sort of accident involving physical injury during this visit.

As it happens, retrograde Neptune is conjunct his natal MC, and square to his natal Venus. The Pope may feel that he is in the middle of a career-crisis! The influence of his natal Venus is a strange one: were it not for the fact that the Pope is (supposedly) celibate, his chart would indicate now would be a good time for him to embark on a new love-affair!!

(This is what happens when you try to learn astrology from books intended for members of the general public, not the heads of major religions).

Pope Benedict’s apparent woes are reinfoced by Saturn transitting his 5th natal house. This indicates that he has issues over how deserving he is of attention from others, and he may feel unloved. (Compare this with the criticism that the Pope’s visit has been receiving from people such as Richard Dawkins, Peter Tatchell and Iain Paisley) However, the Pope also has a long-term opportunity to improve his standing and that of the church (nb: by long-term I mean it probably won’t occur during the duration of the visit itself, but only make itself apparent afterwards).

On the plus side, Pluto’s influence means that the Pope’s ambition and drive to succeed are incredibly strong now. He feels a compulsive need to achieve. The Pope may also find that some of the people he meets will turn out to be very important to him, and become hugely influential – even to the extent of presenting a new opportunity of mutual benefit to themselves and the Pontiff.

The conjunction of transitting Uranus & Jupiter with natal Mercury indicates that this is an auspicious time for the Pope to use his state visit as a public relations exercise. Specifically, he will find it easy to come up with new ideas, make decisions, deliver speeches, and generally put himself across. Also: his natal Venus, which is in his twelfth house (ruled by Mercury), will also be affected, so he will feel the need to promote and improve his relationships with others and to establish new ones as well. The internet and electronic-media will greatly help in this regard. I note that one of his plans is to visit a school assembly which will be broadcast live over the web.
